Compliance
RoHS statements and Safety Data Sheets for this product are available on request. Contact the MightyLoc team and we will send the current documents.
Exposed thread shank
Apply to the exposed thread shank before assembly; the anaerobic film cures in the gap between close-fitting metal surfaces once the fastener is tightened.
Fill the engaged threads
Apply to the bolt threads in sufficient quantity to fill the engaged threads. This locks the threaded fastener and seals the joint against loosening under vibration.
Lock and seal
Apply along the bolt threads, filling them fully so the joint both locks and seals once assembled. The sealed threads help keep moisture and other liquids out.

Frequently asked questions
Taftlock 71 is a high-strength anaerobic threadlocker for permanent assemblies such as transmission and engine-block studs and valve sets, on fasteners up to 25 mm in diameter. Based on a red methacrylate ester, it eliminates the need for double nutting and welding while sealing threads against corrosion and leakage.
Taftlock 71 is the high-strength grade, with a breakaway torque of 31 N.m (about 310 kgf/cm) and a prevail torque of 28 N.m on steel nuts and bolts per ISO 10964, well above medium-strength Taftlock 43 (20 N.m breakaway). This near-permanent hold usually requires localised heating to break, so it suits joints not intended for routine removal.
Taftlock 71 forms a high-strength, near-permanent bond that resists removal with hand tools alone; localised heating of the joint is typically required to soften the cured adhesive before disassembly. For fasteners that need routine servicing, choose removable Taftlock 22 or medium-strength Taftlock 43 instead.
Taftlock 71 is formulated for fasteners up to 25 mm in diameter, the largest of the three Taftlock grades. It is the right choice for heavy assemblies such as engine-block and transmission studs, where high-strength Taftlock 71 replaces double nutting and welding to keep large fasteners secure under vibration.
Taftlock 71 reaches handling strength in about 10 minutes on clean steel at room temperature, develops functional strength in 1 to 3 hours, and reaches full cure in 24 hours. Keep the assembly undisturbed until functional strength is reached, and allow the full 24 hours before applying maximum load.
Taftlock 71 has a service temperature range of -55 C to +150 C, suiting engine and transmission components that run hot and start cold. Chemical-resistance testing shows it retains full strength in motor oil at 125 C and in gasoline over 1,000 hours, with high retention in water/glycol and strong resistance to brake fluid.
Taftlock 71 is a red liquid with a viscosity of 500 cps at 25 C (Brookfield RVT, spindle 3 at 20 rpm) and a specific gravity of 1.11. The lower viscosity helps it wick into the threads of larger fasteners, and the red colour distinguishes it from purple Taftlock 22 and blue Taftlock 43.
Yes. Taftlock 71 fills the gaps between mating metal threads, sealing the joint against corrosion and fluid leakage as it cures in the absence of air. This sealing action, combined with its high breakaway torque, makes Taftlock 71 suited to engine studs and valve sets exposed to oils, coolants and vibration.
Taftlock 71 has a shelf life of 2 years when stored unopened in a cool, dry place between 8 C and 25 C. Wipe the bottle tip clean after use and do not return unused adhesive to the original container, since contamination can affect cure. It is an anaerobic adhesive that cures only on metal threads.
