Bonding solutions for transportation.
Transit vehicles and rail rolling stock operate under continuous vibration, wide temperature swings, and high service frequency. MightyLoc offers an MS polymer adhesive sealant for interior and exterior sealing, alongside anaerobic threadlockers sized for small to large fasteners. Together they address the two main chemical bonding challenges in transit vehicle assembly and depot maintenance.

Talk to our teamSealing and fastener-retention challenges in transit vehicle assembly and maintenance
Rail and mass-transit vehicles accumulate very high duty cycles. Constant vibration from track inputs and drivetrain loading works threaded fasteners loose on bogies, underframe brackets, cab fittings, and interior equipment. A fastener that loosens in service can create noise, accelerate wear on adjacent components, or trigger an unplanned maintenance event. At the same time, panel joints, trim lines, window surrounds, and equipment penetrations require an elastic sealant that stays flexible across the temperature range seen between air-conditioned interiors and equatorial or temperate exteriors. Depot environments add the constraint that products used near workers must be low-odour and free of solvents that could build up in an enclosed space.

TaftGrip is a one-component MS polymer adhesive sealant. It cures by moisture into a paintable elastomer, contains no solvents, isocyanates, silicones, or PVC, and is non-corrosive. It suits panel bonding and sealing work where the joint must remain flexible and where substrate variety makes priming impractical. For threaded fasteners, the Taftlock range covers three strength grades. Taftlock 22 is a low-strength anaerobic threadlocker for fasteners up to 6 mm; it allows disassembly with hand tools. Taftlock 43 is medium-strength for fasteners from 6 to 20 mm, including stainless steel and plated parts. Taftlock 71 is a high-strength grade for screws, fasteners, and rivets where permanent retention is the priority.
Specifying for transit service conditions
All three Taftlock threadlockers operate from -55 to +150 C, which covers the temperature range of rail underframe and mechanical assemblies. TaftGrip has a service range of -40 to +90 C, covering most interior and exterior sealing applications in tropical and temperate climates. Taftlock 22 and Taftlock 43 are both removable with hand tools, which matters for joints that require periodic service access. Taftlock 71 gives a permanent lock and suits fasteners and rivets that will not be disturbed in service. Anaerobic threadlockers cure between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air; TaftGrip bonds to many substrates without a primer. Confirm surface cleanliness requirements against the current Technical Data Sheet for each product before application.
FAQ · TRANSPORTATION
Questions transportation teams ask.
TaftGrip contains no silicones, no isocyanates, and no solvents, and is non-corrosive. This makes it suitable near metal and electronic assemblies where corrosive off-gassing would be a concern. It skins in 5 to 10 minutes, reaches functional cure in 24 hours, and full cure in 7 days. Confirm substrate compatibility against the current Technical Data Sheet before specifying.
The right grade depends on fastener diameter and whether the joint needs to be opened for service. Taftlock 22 covers fasteners up to 6 mm; Taftlock 43 covers 6 to 20 mm, including stainless steel and plated parts. Both are removable with hand tools. Taftlock 71 provides a permanent high-strength lock. All three operate from -55 to +150 C. Confirm selection against the current Technical Data Sheet.
Anaerobic threadlockers cure in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces. They are not designed for non-metallic substrates or for joints where both mating surfaces are painted, as paint prevents cure. For bonding or sealing non-metallic substrates, TaftGrip is the more appropriate product. Confirm specific substrate compatibility against the relevant Technical Data Sheet.
Taftlock 71 carries a stated shelf life of 2 years. Shelf life for Taftlock 22 and Taftlock 43 is not stated in the information published here; confirm the current shelf life for each product against the respective Technical Data Sheet or by contacting the MightyLoc team.
TaftGrip cures into a paintable elastomer. After full cure, which takes 7 days, the surface accepts paint. For time-sensitive applications, functional cure is reached at 24 hours, but paint adhesion at that stage should be verified against the current Technical Data Sheet and the specific paint system being used.
