Taftflex 6292 is a single-component, low-modulus polyurethane elastomeric sealant for joint sealing and gap filling where the joint moves. Its low modulus and high elasticity (600 percent elongation at break) let it stretch and recover with low stress on the bonded surfaces, which suits concrete expansion joints, wood, metal, glass and fibreglass. It cures with atmospheric moisture at about 3 mm per 24 hours, holds from -40 C to +90 C, and is paintable and non-staining once cured.

Continuous bead
Lay a continuous bead along the joint and tool it smooth with a putty knife and soapy water to seal it against water and weather.
Bond and seal in one
Lay the bead along the panel join so it both bonds the panel and seals the seam in one step. There is no separate gasket to fit, and the elastic bond stays flexible and paintable once cured, taking up movement.
Dissimilar materials
Joins dissimilar materials such as metal, composite and glass, where each moves at a different rate. The elastic bond flexes to absorb that movement and the difference in thermal expansion, so the seam stays sealed.

Frequently asked questions
Taftflex 6292 is a single-component, low-modulus polyurethane elastomeric sealant designed for joint sealing and gap filling where the joint moves. Its low modulus, rated +/-25%, and 600% elongation at break let Taftflex 6292 accommodate expansion and contraction with low stress on the bonded surfaces, making it suited to expansion joints in concrete and general industry.
Taftflex 6292 is a low-modulus sealant with a Shore A hardness of about 27, so it puts less stress on the bonded surfaces as the joint flexes. Choose Taftflex 6292 for expansion joints, concrete gap filling, and wide moving joints where high elasticity and a low modulus rated +/-25% matter more than rigidity. It bonds without a primer to wood, anodised aluminium, polyester, concrete, and glass.
Taftflex 6292 adheres without a primer to common substrates including wood, anodised aluminium, polyester, concrete, and glass. For harder materials such as PVC, ABS, PMMA, raw aluminium, or lacquered metal, perform preliminary tests with Taftflex 6292 to determine whether surface preparation is necessary before full application.
Taftflex 6292 forms a skin in about 90 minutes at 23 C and 50% relative humidity, then cures by reacting with moisture at roughly 3mm per 24 hours. Because Taftflex 6292 is moisture-curing, deep expansion-joint beads cure from the surface inward and need more time to harden fully through the section.
Taftflex 6292 has a permanent service temperature range of -40 C to +90 C once fully cured, which suits outdoor and industrial expansion joints. Apply Taftflex 6292 between 5 C and 35 C, and in cold conditions warm the cartridges to about 20 C before use to keep the sealant workable. Do not apply below 5 C.
Yes, Taftflex 6292 has excellent UV resistance and good resistance to dilute acids and bases, with average water and salt spray resistance, so it holds up in many outdoor expansion joints. Taftflex 6292 is also non-staining to bonded surfaces and is paintable with water-based coatings once cured, which makes it suitable for visible concrete and facade joints.
Taftflex 6292 cures to a high-elasticity elastomer with 600% elongation at break and a tensile strength greater than 0.25 MPa, with a soft Shore A hardness of about 27. This combination lets a Taftflex 6292 joint stretch and recover repeatedly, which is the point of a low-modulus sealant in a moving expansion joint.
Taftflex 6292 is supplied in a 310ml cartridge and a 600ml sausage, in black, white, and grey, and is applied with a manual or pneumatic gun. It has a 12-month shelf life when stored unopened between 15 C and 25 C out of direct sunlight; once opened, use Taftflex 6292 within 24 hours so it does not cure inside the pack.
