Yes, Taftspray 78 is polystyrene-foam safe, so it can be sprayed onto expanded polystyrene and similar lightweight foams without damaging the surface. The technical data sheet lists lightweight foams among its bonding substrates, which makes Taftspray 78 a practical choice for foam upholstery and craft-foam work where many solvent sprays would attack the material.
Taftspray 78 has a bonding range of 10 seconds to 15 minutes for a single sprayed surface, and 10 seconds to 30 minutes when both surfaces are sprayed. For extra-strong bonds, spray both surfaces and allow a minimum of 30 seconds drying time before joining. Make the bond while the adhesive is still aggressively tacky.
Taftspray 78 is translucent both wet and dry, so it dries to a near-clear film. Its low soak-in gives a better appearance, higher adhesive coverage, and soft, non-dimpling glue lines. This keeps the finish clean on artwork mounting, photo mounting, and signage, where a visible adhesive line would be unacceptable.
Hold the Taftspray 78 can 15 to 20 cm from the surface during spraying. Shake the can well first, then turn the spray tip so the arrow points to the dot on the rim, and spray evenly. This distance, combined with the low-mist, fine-particle spray pattern, gives controlled coverage with reduced overspray and misting.
Taftspray 78 gives a coverage of about 23 m2 per kilogram at a 10 gram per square metre application rate. The can holds approximately 450 grams net weight. Actual coverage varies with spray technique, substrate porosity, and whether one or both surfaces are coated, so porous materials such as cardboard will reduce the effective area.
Taftspray 78 has a maximum shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacturing. Store the can at 16 C to 28 C for maximum storage life, away from direct sunlight and direct flame. High temperatures can reduce storage life, while low temperatures may temporarily increase the spray viscosity.
Taftspray 78 has a flash point of -40 C, so it should be used in a well-ventilated area away from sparks, open flame, and direct heat. Its volatile organic content is 52%, and the technical data sheet lists no hazardous air pollutants. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for health and safety information before handling this product.
Taftspray 78 can be applied to one or both surfaces depending on the bond needed. Single-side spraying gives a 10 second to 15 minute bonding range, while spraying both surfaces gives a 10 second to 30 minute range. For an extra-strong bond, spray both surfaces and allow a minimum of 30 seconds drying time before pressing the parts together.
For best results with Taftspray 78, the adhesive and the surfaces being bonded should be at least 18 C. Surfaces must also be clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, oil, loose paint, wax, and grease before spraying. Colder substrates can slow tack development and may temporarily increase the adhesive's spray viscosity.
