Methacrylate Adhesive

Mightyloc 9025™ is a 2-component methyl methacrylate adhesive or otherwise known as MMA based on acrylic monomer chemistry in the composition. Mightyloc 9025™ a fast reactive, room temperature curable acrylic adhesive that will bond strongly to most metals that can replace tack or spot welding for metal or stainless stiffener to the metal panel. It has a lap shear strength exceeding 50 kg/cm² when fully cured for metal bonding. Mightyloc 9025™ will fully cure and form a tough and resilient bond strength to most similar or dissimilar substrates as it is able to withstand shock and excellent temperature resistance up to 140ºC with no degradation in strength.

The bonding strength of Mightyloc 9025™ is comparable to spot welding when it comes to adhering metal stiffeners to metal panels. Its easy mix ratio of 1:1, fast curing ability, and exceptionally high bond strength make this adhesive a preferred bonding compound for metal fabrication and parts assembly. This adhesive is able to bond dissimilar materials that include, wood, fiberglass, plastics, and composite.

Directions

  • Apply Part A & Part B with the same volume on bonding substrates.
  • Mix the 2 parts together with a spatula to ensure homogeneity. 
  • Place the adherend substrates together and press them down with weights for at least 3 minutes.
  • Do not move substrates for at least 15 minutes after bonding. 
  • The curing period may generate heat due to exothermic for several minutes. Please refrain from touching the substrate's surface. 
  • Use approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) like masks, gloves, and eyewear when applying adhesive. 
  • Do not inhale fumes during exothermic.
  • Store containers at a cool temperature of below 25°C.

Mightloc 9025™ is a 2 part highly reactive acrylic adhesive that will set and cure at room temperature rapidly when mixed. It comprises a Resin (Part A) and an Activator (Part B) that when mixed together will release heat (exothermic) during curing and result in high shear strength for the bonded substrates. 

When using Mightyloc 9025™ MMA, it is not required to perform intensive surface preparation prior to application. Instead, light abrades or scoff the bonding substrates and follow by a wipe down of the surfaces using an Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to remove any oil, contaminants, or dust before applying the adhesive.  

Mightyloc 9025 has an off ratio tolerance of 2∼3% between Part A or Part B is generally acceptable. This adhesive has the ability to react and cure within specification even if it is off ratio as per recommended. However, it is not advisable to have a mismatched ratio of >10%.

Mightyloc 9025™ is termed as 2nd generation acrylic adhesive (SGA) and its viscosity range is lower than regular methacrylate adhesive that is generally higher in viscosity sometimes thixotropic, and non flowable in characteristic. Mightyloc 9025™ has good competitive value over regular type of methyl methacrylate adhesives that are packed in cartridges. 

Mightyloc 9025™ is a highly reactive acrylic adhesive that is compounded with rubber elastomer that will yield exceptional high shear strength when bonded parts are fully cured. It can bond to similar or dissimilar materials due to its slightly flexible characteristics to absorb any severe impact and shock resistance (refer to video). When fully cured, it has a shear strength of 80 Kg/cm² or more for metal bonding. 

Mightyloc 9025™ unlike other types of adhesives can withstand hot and cold temperatures ranging between -40°C ∼ +150°C continuously. This adhesive can withstand up to 200ºC of not more than 20 minutes when used in an epoxy powder coating application environment.

To ensure maximum bonding strength for bonded parts, usually a thin spread or coating on 1 side of the surface is sufficient. If excessive adhesive is applied, it will result in wastage and will spread to the side of the bonded parts. 

  1. Always use Personal Protective Equipment like chemical resistance glove, face mask, and goggle when handling this adhesive.
  2. Do not inhale fumes during exothermic.
  3. Apply hand barrier cream prior to using adhesive.
  4. Only transfer the required amount to use from the container to avoid moisture contamination and premature curing. 
  5. Store containers in a cool (<25ºC or lower) and dry place.  
  6. Keep containers away from heat source.
